Mumbai's Eastern Waterfront to Undergo ₹22,672-Crore Transformation
The Eastern Waterfront of Mumbai is set for a massive ₹22,672-crore transformation led by the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways. The redevelopment will focus on turning Mumbai into a significant global maritime, logistics, and tourism hub by 2047. Union Minister for Ports, Shipping and Waterways Sarbananda Sonowal outlined a dual strategy to bolster Mumbai Port's cargo operations while utilizing underutilized port land for urban, tourism, and business development. Key projects include the Viksit Bharat Mumbai Marina and the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Convention Centre. This initiative, aligned with the goals of Viksit Bharat and Atmanirbhar Bharat, is expected to generate employment for around 5.5 lakh people and draw 25 million visitors annually by 2047.
