Namami Gange Mission Phase-II Hits Key Milestones

In 2025, the Namami Gange Mission Phase-II achieved significant progress with the commissioning of 25 sewage treatment plants, creating a total sewage treatment capacity of 3,977 MLD as of December 2025. Water quality of the river Ganga has shown improvement, meeting bathing criteria in several regions, though some areas in Uttar Pradesh remain polluted. The mission also focuses on biodiversity conservation, with efforts to protect and restore habitats for Gangetic Dolphins, turtles, fish species, and more, in collaboration with several organizations. Afforestation along the Ganga has covered 33,024 hectares. The National Mission for Clean Ganga supports these initiatives with substantial financial and structural projects, continuing its broader goal of cleaning and preserving the river.
