NAMASTE Scheme: Transforming Sanitation Safety in India

The India's Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment, in collaboration with the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, has implemented the National Action for Mechanised Sanitation Eco-system (NAMASTE) Scheme to safeguard sanitation workers. Under this initiative, measures are taken to protect workers from hazardous cleaning operations and empower them economically and socially. The scheme has led to significant advancements such as the distribution of PPE kits, validation of over 89,000 workers, and the release of capital subsidies to sanitation projects, aiming for zero fatalities and dignity for all Safai Karmacharis.
