National Beekeeping & Honey Mission: A Sweet Revolution for India
The National Beekeeping and Honey Mission (NBHM) is a government initiative aimed at promoting scientific beekeeping in India, with a budget of ₹500 crores for the period FY 2020-21 to FY 2025-26. The mission focuses on enhancing productivity, post-harvest management, and research in beekeeping. In 2024, India produced approximately 1.4 lakh metric tonnes of honey and became the second-largest honey exporter globally. The Madhukranti portal has been launched for online registration and traceability of honey products, supporting rural livelihoods and agricultural sustainability.
