National Centre for Seismology Expands Its Seismograph Network Across India
The National Centre for Seismology (NCS), under the Ministry of Earth Sciences, operates an extensive seismograph network with 170 observatories across India for earthquake monitoring. Using advanced technology, it provides real-time data and analysis, crucial for assessing regional seismicity, especially around major infrastructure like dams. Recently, the network's coverage and capabilities were expanded, funded under the Ministry's PRITHVI scheme. This expanded network ensures detection of earthquakes with magnitudes over 3.0 anywhere in India, enhancing disaster preparedness and response capabilities.
