The Ministry of Textiles in India, through the Office of Development Commissioner (Handlooms), is implementing the National Handloom Development Programme (NHDP). Over the last five years, around 22.7 million weavers and Self Help Groups have received assistance under NHDP. Among its components, the Cluster Development Programme (CDP) provides financial support for interventions such as loom upgrades, workshed construction, and product design across the country. Furthermore, the Handloom Marketing Assistance (HMA) enables marketing platforms and exhibitions, including an e-commerce portal, benefiting approximately 16.1 million weavers in the past five years. The All India Handloom Census 2019-20 recorded over 35.2 million handloom workers nationwide. The information was disclosed by Pabitra Margherita, Minister of State for Textiles, in the Rajya Sabha.
