National Mission for Sustaining the Himalayan Ecosystem
The Department of Science and Technology (DST) is implementing the National Mission for Sustaining the Himalayan Ecosystem (NMSHE) with a total budget of Rs. 111.63 Crores since 2018. The mission focuses on climate change, vulnerability assessments, and disaster risk reduction in the Himalayan region. It has established State Climate Change Cells and a National Expert Committee to oversee research and implementation. A Centre of Excellence has been set up at IIT Roorkee to address climate-induced disasters, while initiatives for urban climate research and sustainable tourism are also underway.
