National Technical Textiles Mission Transforms Textile Landscape in India

Launched in 2020, the National Technical Textiles Mission (NTTM) aims to revitalize India's technical textiles sector with a financial outlay of Rs. 1,480 crore. The mission has approved 168 projects, of which 79 focused on research in specialty fibres such as carbon, aramid, and nylon, and various technical textile segments like geotextiles, agro-textiles, medical textiles, and smart textiles. The overarching goal is to enhance domestic production, reduce import dependency, and generate employment. NTTM also supports start-ups through the GREAT scheme to boost local manufacturing and provide economic opportunities. The initiative emphasizes R&D, skilled workforce development, and market expansion through structured training, workshops, and outreach activities. The comprehensive approach fosters innovation across diverse applications, from defense to sustainable agriculture, promoting India's global presence in technical textiles.
