On World Sickle Cell Awareness Day 2025, the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (DEPwD) organized extensive awareness programmes across India, including lectures, seminars, and webinars. The theme for this year was 'Global Action, Local Impact: Empowering Communities for Effective Self-Advocacy'. Various National Institutes and Composite Regional Centers (CRCs) participated, focusing on early diagnosis, effective treatment, and community support for Sickle Cell Disease (SCD), a hereditary blood disorder affecting millions, particularly in tribal populations.
