Nationwide HPV Vaccination Drive Launched in India

On February 28, 2026, Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched a nationwide campaign to administer the Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine free-of-cost to 1.15 crore girls aged 14 across India. This initiative aims to prevent cervical cancer, which is the second most common cancer among Indian women. With a 93-100% efficacy against HPV types causing cervical cancer, India has now aligned with over 160 countries that have included HPV vaccinations in their national immunisation programs. The campaign will run intensively for 90 days, with vaccines available thereafter during routine immunisation days.
