NBA Disburses ₹5.34 Crores to Maharashtra BMCs
The National Biodiversity Authority (NBA) has released ₹5.34 crore to 85 Biodiversity Management Committees (BMCs) in Maharashtra as part of the Access and Benefit Sharing (ABS) Framework. This initiative highlights the importance of soil microorganisms, which account for 15% of ABS applications, underscoring their potential to provide significant benefits to local communities and stakeholders. The funds will be distributed through the Maharashtra State Biodiversity Board, supporting sustainable biodiversity management and community prosperity. With these disbursements, India solidifies its status as a leader in the implementation of the ABS mechanism, with total contributions exceeding ₹116 crores.
