NCAER Report Highlights Pathways to Employment Growth in India
A new report titled 'India's Employment Prospects: Pathways to Jobs' by NCAER emphasizes the importance of skilling and productivity in small enterprises for substantial employment growth in India. Authored by Professor Farzana Afridi and her team, the study highlights self-employment as a major employment source due to economic necessity rather than entrepreneurial dynamism. It suggests that increasing skilled workforce participation could boost employment by up to 13% in labour-intensive sectors. The report also assesses the multiplier effects in manufacturing and services, recommending policy interventions to unlock sector-specific employment opportunities to sustain GDP growth at around 8%.
