NCDC Enhances India's Disease Surveillance with Strategic National Initiatives

The National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, is significantly strengthening India's disease surveillance framework. Through strategic programs, the NCDC is enhancing viral hepatitis, rabies, and leptospirosis management, and combating zoonotic diseases via the National One Health Programme. Supported by the Pradhan Mantri Ayushman Bharat Health Infrastructure Mission, NCDC is expanding nationwide, establishing Bio Safety Level-3 Laboratories, state branches, and Metropolitan Surveillance Units to fortify infrastructure. These efforts are complemented by the Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme (IDSP) and the establishment of surveillance units and public health labs, aiming to ensure real-time, paperless monitoring and outbreak response capabilities.
