New Maritime Laws Undergo Comprehensive Stakeholder Engagement Before Implementation

The Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways in India is actively working on implementing new maritime legislations, the Coastal Shipping Act, 2025, Merchant Shipping Act, 2025, and Indian Ports Act, 2025 through an extensive rule-making and consultative process. Over fourteen technical committees have been formed to draft the necessary rules. Legal experts and stakeholders like shipowners, seafarers’ associations, and government departments are actively participating to ensure effective and timely enforcement of these laws.
