NHRC Addresses Hazardous Gas Leak in Maharashtra
The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) of India has taken suo motu cognizance following a hazardous gas leak at a chemical unit in Palghar district, Maharashtra, leading to the evacuation of over 2,600 individuals. The NHRC has issued a notice to the state Chief Secretary for a detailed report on the incident within two weeks. This gas leak, which happened on March 2nd, 2026, led to minor eye irritation for three individuals and the cause of the leakage remains unidentified.
