NHRC Investigates Alleged Torture Leading to Death at Meerut De-addiction Centre

The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) of India has taken notice of the death of a 38-year-old man, allegedly due to torture at a De-addiction centre in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh. The man was transferred from a NOIDA centre and died at AIIMS, New Delhi. The NHRC has requested a detailed report from the Uttar Pradesh Chief Secretary and Director General of Police within two weeks, focusing on the status of De-addiction centres in the state.
