The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), India conducted an online hearing for 216 cases of alleged bonded labour in Uttar Pradesh's brick kilns, highlighting shortcomings in enforcement by state authorities. NHRC Chairperson Justice V. Ramasubramanian, alongside Secretary General Shri Bharat Lal, criticized the authorities for not effectively implementing the Bonded Labour System (Abolition) Act, 1976. The State Labour Commissioner assured compliance with the Supreme Court directives and pledged to submit detailed reports within three weeks.
