NHRC Takes Action on Witchcraft-Related Killings in Bihar
The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) of India has taken suo motu cognizance of the brutal killing of five family members in Purnia, Bihar, on suspicion of witchcraft. The NHRC has issued notices to state officials for a detailed report and has directed the government to ensure the safety of the sole survivor, a 16-year-old boy who witnessed the incident. The attack involved a mob of around 50 people who assaulted the family, leading to their deaths and subsequent burning of their bodies.
