NITI Aayog's New Report Highlights Surge in Women's Credit Participation
NITI Aayog launched the second edition of its report, "From Borrowers to Builders: Women and India’s Evolving Credit Market," revealing a significant increase in credit acquired by women in India. The report, produced in collaboration with TransUnion CIBIL and MicroSave Consulting, highlights that women now hold a ₹76 lakh crore credit portfolio, representing 26% of the total system credit. It points out that women’s credit exposure has grown 4.8 times since 2017, with substantial growth in commercial credit and geographic expansion across India. The report underscores the importance of formal credit access in empowering women economically and driving broader market participation.
