November Rail Freight Sees 4.2% Boost, Driven by Key Commodities

In November 2025, Indian Railways achieved a record freight loading of 135.7 million tonnes, marking a 4.2% year-over-year growth. This increase was fueled by significant rises in the transport of commodities like steel, iron ore, and fertilizers. The cumulative freight load for the fiscal year up to November rose by 3.3%, reaching 1,070.8 million tonnes, exceeding the total from 2013-14. This growth supports India's $5 trillion economy goal by strengthening domestic and international supply chains and providing a cost-effective, sustainable transportation option. Alongside economic benefits, rail freight is a greener alternative, aligning with India's Net Zero Carbon Emission targets.
