Objectives of Green Steel Taxonomy

The Green Steel Taxonomy aims to define 'Green Steel' and create a framework to encourage steel industries to produce it using energy-efficient technologies and non-fossil fuels, such as renewable energy. After consultations with stakeholders, the taxonomy will issue Green Steel Certificates to plants that meet specified emission intensity levels. The National Institute of Secondary Steel Technology (NISST) will oversee Measurement, Reporting, and Verification (MRV) and the issuance of these certificates. So far, 39 producers have applied for certification.
