Ongoing Navigation on River Ganga Enhances Employment Opportunities

The Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways reports that navigation of inland vessels on the River Ganga (National Waterway-1) is ongoing, supported by the Jal Marg Vikas Project (JMVP) funded by the World Bank. The project aims to create over 130,000 jobs and improve socio-economic conditions along the riverbanks through the development of navigational aids and community jetties. The operating cost for navigating the river is Rs. 1.2 per Ton Kilometre, with 4229 vessels recorded in FY 2024-25.
