Organic Farming Promotion Receives Boost in Southern States

The Indian government is actively promoting organic farming in Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Kerala, and Telangana through the Paramparagat Krishi Vikas Yojana (PKVY). Since its inception in 2015-16, the scheme has provided substantial financial support, amounting to Rs. 31,500 per hectare over three years, mainly to procure organic farm inputs. Despite allocated funds, Kerala and Telangana reported no expenditures or farmer benefits in 2024-25. However, numerous farmers in Tamil Nadu and Karnataka have benefited from the scheme. The funding allocations for these states have been outlined for upcoming years, with Tamil Nadu and Karnataka receiving notable shares.
