Over 6.38 Lakh Villages Listed in India's Cultural Mapping Initiative

The "Mera Gaon Meri Dharohar" (MGMD) programme has identified 638,365 villages across India for cultural mapping, with data for 623,449 villages uploaded to date. The initiative aims to strengthen rural identity by documenting cultural elements such as oral traditions, customs, and art forms. Through community involvement and data availability on a national portal, the MGMD programme supports the planning of cultural cluster development and promotes heritage tourism and traditional skills, contributing to sustainable economic development in rural areas. This update was presented by the Union Minister for Culture and Tourism, Shri Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, to the Rajya Sabha.
