PAHAL Scheme Enhances Efficiency and Transparency in LPG Subsidy Transfers

The PAHAL (DBTL) scheme, operational since January 2015, has significantly improved the efficiency, transparency, and consumer-centric approach in the disbursal of LPG subsidies across India. By selling LPG cylinders at a uniform Retail Selling Price (RSP) and directly depositing the applicable subsidies into individual bank accounts, PAHAL has curtailed the diversion of subsidized LPG for commercial use and eradicated discrepancies in subsidy allocation. Initiatives like Aadhaar-based biometric authentication and the creation of a centralized LPG database have contributed to purging fraudulent accounts and enhancing subsidy targeting. The government is also bolstering grievance redressal systems to improve consumer satisfaction.
