Pilot Study to Improve District-Level Economic Estimations in Uttar Pradesh
The Ministry of Statistics & Programme Implementation (MoSPI) has conducted a pilot study to assess the feasibility of generating district-level estimates of Monthly Per Capita Consumption Expenditure (MPCE) in Uttar Pradesh using model-based techniques. A committee led by Dr. Mausumi Bose utilized Small Area Estimation methods, specifically Fay–Herriot (FH) and Spatial FH models, to derive accurate economic indicators for both rural and urban sectors across districts. The findings aim to enhance policy-making and expand similar estimation methods to other socio-economic measures across India.
