PLI Scheme Boosts India's Food Processing and Employment
The Production Linked Incentive Scheme for Food Processing Industries (PLISFPI) has significantly increased India's food processing capacity, generating considerable employment opportunities. By September 2025, 170 applications were approved under the scheme, enhancing food processing capacity by 35 lakh MT per annum and creating approximately 3.39 lakh direct and indirect jobs. Furthermore, there has been a significant rise in exports of processed food products with a CAGR of 13.23% between 2019-20 and 2024-25. The scheme encourages complete manufacturing within India, fostering domestic growth in the food processing sector.
