PM Surya Ghar: Solar Initiative Reaches 24% of Target

The PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana (PMSG: MBY), a government initiative to install rooftop solar systems for one crore households by FY 2026-27, has currently reached 23.96 lakh households, approximately 24% of its target. The scheme, designed to empower residential consumers with grid-connected electricity, has seen 53.54 lakh applications, with 19.18 lakh systems already installed. Significant efforts are underway to expedite the scheme, such as introducing online processes for subsidy disbursement, offering collateral-free loans, and simplifying vendor registration. The government aims to cover an additional 35 lakh households in FY 2025-26, with supportive measures including capacity building, awareness campaigns, and regular progress monitoring. This update was shared by Union Minister of State for New and Renewable Energy, Shri Shripad Yesso Naik, in Rajya Sabha.
