Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Pariyojana Scheme Expansion
The Government of India has launched the Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Pariyojana scheme to provide quality generic medicines at affordable prices. As of June 30, 2025, 16,912 Jan Aushadhi Kendras (JAKs) have been established, with plans to increase this number to 20,000 by March 31, 2026. The scheme offers medicines that are 50% to 80% cheaper than branded alternatives, saving citizens approximately ₹38,000 crore. The product basket will expand to 2,200 medicines and 320 surgical items by 2026, with strict quality control measures in place.
