Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana: Enhancing Rural Connectivity

The Government has launched the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) to improve road connectivity in rural areas. Initiated in December 2000, the scheme aims to provide all-weather roads to unconnected habitations, enhancing access to social and economic services. New verticals PMGSY-II, PMGSY-III, and PMGSY-IV have been introduced to upgrade and consolidate rural roads, with a total outlay of Rs. 70,125 crore for PMGSY-IV. As of August 2025, over 7,83,000 km of roads have been constructed, benefiting more than 1.62 lakh habitations.
