Pradhan Mantri Gramin Sadak Yojna-III Timeline Extended to March 2026
The Indian government has extended the timeline for the Pradhan Mantri Gramin Sadak Yojna (PMGSY) Phase III to March 2026, after certain states and Union Territories requested the change. Since the program's inception in 2019, it has aimed to construct and improve 125,000 km of rural roads, significantly enhancing access to markets, education, and healthcare for rural communities. By December 2025, 101,623 km (83%) of the targeted road length was completed. The project has demonstrated beneficial impacts, including increased school enrollment, improved healthcare access, and more employment opportunities, as evidenced by a World Bank evaluation. The expansion primarily benefits rural women and aligns with the country's Sustainable Development Goals on poverty alleviation.
