President of India Unveils Bust of Chakravarti Rajagopalachari at Rashtrapati Bhavan

On February 23, 2026, President Droupadi Murmu unveiled a bust of Chakravarti Rajagopalachari, the first and only Indian Governor-General of post-independence India, at Rashtrapati Bhavan. The event marks a step in reclaiming India's cultural heritage by replacing colonial vestiges, like the bust of Edwin Lutyens, with symbols of Indian heritage. The President, alongside Vice President C. P. Radhakrishnan and other dignitaries, attended the Rajaji Utsav, which featured cultural exhibitions and performances celebrating Rajaji's legacy. This initiative forms part of a series dedicated to mental decolonisation and national remembrance.
