Private TV Channels Must Adhere to Programme Code Guidelines
The Ministry of Information & Broadcasting has asserted that Private TV Channels are obligated to follow the Programme and Advertising Codes under the Cable Television Networks (Regulation) Act, 1995. These guidelines prohibit content that might incite religious or communal discord, or defame any individuals or groups, ensuring social and moral integrity. The enactment of the Cable Television Networks (Amendment) Rules, 2021, introduced a structured grievance redressal mechanism at three levels. Over the past five years, diverse actions, including advisories, warnings, apology scroll orders, and off-air orders, have been taken against non-compliant channels.
