The Atal Bhujal Yojana, a pilot project aimed at community-driven groundwater management, has been executed in 8,203 Gram Panchayats across seven states, including Uttar Pradesh. The program focused on participatory water management through creating Water Security Plans, community-led monitoring, and implementing water conservation structures. As of 2025, Uttar Pradesh has utilized Rs. 275.35 crore towards these efforts, with 344 of the 549 participating Gram Panchayats showing improvements in groundwater levels.
