Progress on Fast Breeder Reactor Project in India

The Atomic Energy Regulatory Board (AERB) has granted permission for the Initial Fuel Loading (IFL) at the Prototype Fast Breeder Reactor (PFBR) as part of India's nuclear energy expansion efforts. The loading involves 37 sub-assemblies, primarily fuel assemblies, with the aim of reaching the First Approach to Criticality. India's nuclear ecosystem, comprising government and private entities, is advancing with domestic manufacturing capabilities supported by the Make in India initiative. Explorations by the Atomic Minerals Directorate continue to support the nuclear power program, while uranium mining is overseen by Uranium Corporation of India Limited. Comprehensive waste management for nuclear by-products is governed under the Atomic Energy Act, ensuring safe disposal and environmental compliance.
