Protection of Fisheries Sector in India
The Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry & Dairying is implementing the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY) with an investment of Rs. 20050 crore to enhance the fisheries sector and support traditional fishers. The scheme includes measures for sustainable fishing, habitat conservation, and the development of climate-resilient coastal villages. A uniform fishing ban is enforced annually to protect fish stocks, and various initiatives are in place to combat overfishing and promote responsible fishing practices.
