Raigarh Fisheries Cooperatives Transform into FFPOs with Government Support
The Indian government, under the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY), is facilitating the formation of 6,000 new Fisheries Cooperative Societies (FCS) from 2024-29, with Raigarh forming 18 new cooperatives in 2024-25. These cooperatives are provided financial support of Rs 3 lakh each. The National Cooperative Development Corporation (NCDC) is also transforming 1,000 Primary Fisheries Cooperative Societies (PFCS) into Fish Farmers Producer Organisations (FFPOs) in coastal states, including Raigad, as part of the Blue Revolution initiative. This effort is aimed at boosting fish production, enhancing infrastructure, and empowering fishers, particularly women and marginalized communities, through financial aid and incentives. The Department of Fisheries recorded a budget of ₹8,853 lakh for five years to enhance fisheries in Maharashtra, elevating the state's blue economy by significantly boosting fish production and exports.
