Railway Projects Worth ₹89,780 Crore Sanctioned for Maharashtra
The Ministry of Railways has sanctioned 38 projects aimed at enhancing the rail infrastructure in Maharashtra, a significant investment totaling ₹89,780 crore. These projects encompass new lines, gauge conversions, and track doubling, covering a distance of 5,098 km. The effort is part of a broader initiative to boost passenger capacity and improve safety, which also includes the addition of 238 new rakes for Mumbai's suburban network under the Mumbai Urban Transport Projects (MUTP) at a cost of ₹19,293 crore. The budget for rail infrastructure in Maharashtra has increased over twenty-fold since 2009. Furthermore, ongoing construction on the high-speed rail and Western Dedicated Freight Corridor (DFC) is set to enhance connectivity and capacity.
