Regulation of Biostimulant Products in India
The Government of India has included biostimulant products in the Fertilizer Control Order (FCO), 1985, to regulate their quality and usage. Initially, over 30,000 products were in the market, but only 146 have been officially included in Schedule VI of the FCO. Provisional registrations for over 8,000 products were granted to allow manufacturers time to meet regulatory requirements, but these will become invalid after June 16, 2025. The government has decided not to extend these registrations further, ensuring a smooth transition to the new regulatory framework.
