Regulation of Online Sale of Painkillers and Psychotropic Drugs in India

The Government of India is taking steps to regulate the online sale of addictive painkillers and psychotropic drugs through draft rules published on August 28, 2018. These rules aim to amend the Drugs Rules, 1945, and include provisions for the registration and monitoring of e-pharmacies, periodic inspections, and a complaint redressal mechanism. The State Licensing Authorities (SLAs) are responsible for enforcing these regulations under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, 1940.
