Revised E-Waste Management Rules by MoEF&CC

The Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEF&CC) has revised the E-Waste (Management) Rules, 2016, introducing the E-Waste (Management) Rules, 2022, effective from April 1, 2023. These rules regulate 106 types of electrical and electronic equipment, including mobile phones and computers. Additionally, the Battery Waste Management Rules, 2022, mandate Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) for waste batteries. The Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) estimates significant e-waste generation for FY 2023-24 and 2024-25, promoting environmentally sound management and recycling through an online EPR portal and guidelines for compliance and auditing.
