The Ministry of Commerce & Industry's Patent Office (CGPDTM) has released the Revised Guidelines for Examination of Computer Related Inventions (CRIs) for 2025. These guidelines aim to enhance clarity and consistency in the examination of CRIs, incorporating provisions for emerging technologies such as AI, ML, Blockchain, and Quantum Computing. Key highlights include a detailed chapter on jurisprudence, a step-wise assessment methodology, flowcharts for stakeholders, and an annexure with examples of allowable and non-allowable claims. The guidelines are a significant step towards transparency and innovation in India's patent ecosystem.
