Revolutionary Laser-Assisted Turning Technology for Machining Superalloys
A new hybrid technique called Laser-Assisted Turning (LAT) has been developed to effectively machine superalloys like Inconel 625, which are used in aerospace, nuclear reactors, and power generation. This method combines localized laser heating with mechanical cutting, significantly reducing tool wear and improving machining quality. Researchers at ARCI demonstrated that LAT can lead to a 69% reduction in cutting force and a 56% improvement in surface finish, paving the way for next-generation components in various high-performance industries.
