Rights of Domestic Workers in India

The Ministry of Labour & Employment has launched the eShram portal to register unorganised workers, including domestic workers, providing them with a Universal Account Number (UAN). As of July 2025, over 30.94 crore workers are registered. The eShram portal serves as a 'One-Stop-Solution' for accessing various social security schemes. New Labour Codes ensure decent working conditions and social security for all workers, while existing laws aim to protect domestic workers from exploitation. However, India has not ratified the ILO Convention No.189 concerning Domestic Workers.
