Rise in Indigenous Manufacturing in Capital Goods Sector under Atmanirbhar Bharat

Under the Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative, India's indigenous production in the capital goods sector saw significant growth, rising from Rs 2,87,233 crore in 2019-20 to Rs 5,69,900 crore in 2024-25. This surge reflects increased manufacturing capacity across various sub-sectors including machine tools, textile machinery, and heavy engineering equipment. The Ministry of Heavy Industries supports this growth through the 'Enhancement of Competitiveness in the Indian Capital Goods Sector-Phase II' scheme, which encourages collaborations between Project Implementing Organizations and industry partners. Despite these efforts, some regions such as Panipat and Yamunanagar have not yet submitted proposals under this initiative. The development of a technology innovation platform by the International Centre for Automotive Technology further aims to drive solutions by bridging industry with academic research initiatives.
