Sagar Mitra Initiative in Andhra Pradesh

The Government of India has approved the engagement of 350 Sagar Mitras in coastal villages of Andhra Pradesh under the PMMSY scheme. This initiative aims to enhance the fishing community's access to information and insurance coverage. The Indian National Centre for Ocean Information Services provides Potential Fishing Zone (PFZ) advisories, which are disseminated to fishers through NGOs and a mobile app. The PMMSY also includes insurance provisions for fishers, covering significant amounts for disabilities and death, with the state providing additional support to families of deceased fishermen.
