Significant Data Reporting Lapses in India's Organ Transplant Hospitals in 2025
The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare reported a significant data reporting lapse as 217 out of 804 registered transplant hospitals failed to submit information to the National Registry Portal in 2025. Despite this, 20,019 organ transplants were performed in India during the year. The organ transplant waitlist in the country stood at 89,839 as of March 3, 2026. The Government of India is addressing these issues through the National Organ Transplant Programme, which aims to improve infrastructure, services, and awareness of organ donation.
