Significant Increase in Medical Education Seats Announced by National Medical Commission
The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, with information provided by the National Medical Commission, has announced a substantial increase in medical education seats in India. From the academic year 2020-21 to 2025-26, a total of 48,563 MBBS seats and 29,080 PG seats have been added. Moreover, the government has approved an additional 10,023 medical seats under Centrally Sponsored Schemes from 2025-26 to 2028-29, further addressing the healthcare workforce gap, particularly in underserved regions. The National Medical Commission continues to set regulations to maintain the quality of medical education.
