Smart Meters Installation Progress Under RDSS

As of July 15, 2025, under the Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS), 20.33 crore smart meters have been sanctioned across 28 States/UTs in India, with 2.41 crore already installed. In Gujarat, 1.67 crore meters were sanctioned, and 20.94 lakh have been installed. Smart meters enhance billing efficiency by providing real-time data, reducing human error, and preventing electricity theft. The initiative aims to improve the operational performance of distribution utilities, with significant reductions in Aggregate Technical & Commercial (AT&C) losses and the Average Cost of Supply-Average Revenue Realized (ACS-ARR) gap reported.
