SMILE Scheme Rescues Over 9,800 Individuals from Begging
The SMILE (Support for Marginalized Individuals for Livelihood and Enterprise) sub-scheme, initiated on October 23, 2023, has successfully rescued and rehabilitated 9,855 individuals out of over 31,000 identified as engaging in begging across various states and Union Territories. The scheme focuses on vocational training and livelihood support to ensure sustainable rehabilitation, involving local and central government agencies, NGOs, and community initiatives.
